Saving Images From Bluesky Posts

Bluesky image posts download cleanly. Video is a different story, and this explains why.

How it works

Bluesky publishes public posts through the AT Protocol's open appview API. No key, no login, no scraping. Clearlla asks for the post record and reads the image blobs attached to it, which is about as clean as extraction gets.

Posts with up to four images return each one separately at full resolution.

The steps

  • Open the post on bsky.app and copy the link.
  • Paste it into the Clearlla Bluesky downloader.
  • Download each image you want.

Why video is not supported yet

Bluesky serves video as an HLS playlist made of small segments rather than a single file. Turning that into an MP4 means downloading and stitching every segment, which is not something Clearlla does today.

Rather than return a broken file, video posts get a clear message saying it is not supported. Bluesky is labelled Limited support for exactly this reason.
