How to Download Videos on a Phone Without Installing an App
Your phone's browser can do the whole job: copy the share link, paste it into Clearlla, and save the file. Here is the workflow on Android and iPhone, and where the file ends up.
The short answer
You can download public videos on a phone without installing anything. Open the post in its app, tap Share and Copy link, open clearlla.com in Chrome, Safari, or another browser, paste the link, and tap Download. The file saves through your browser's normal download system.
This works for the platforms and post types Clearlla supports, such as TikTok videos, Reddit videos, Twitch clips, and public X posts with media. Where the file appears afterwards depends on the phone and the browser, which is covered below.
Why a browser is enough
A downloader needs two things: a way to find the media file behind a post and a way to save it. Clearlla does the first on its server and your browser does the second. Modern mobile browsers can save files just as desktop browsers can, so a separate app adds nothing except permissions you might not want to grant.
Skipping an app also means no account, no background access to your photos, and nothing to uninstall later.
Step 1: Copy the share link
If you are unsure what you copied, paste it into a note first. A post link usually contains a long number or code after the account name.
- Open the post in the platform's app or website.
- Tap Share, then Copy link. On some apps the option is under a three dot menu.
- Make sure you copied the post, not the profile. Profile links will not work.
Step 2: Paste it into Clearlla
- Open clearlla.com in your browser. You can add it to your home screen for quicker access.
- Long press the input box and tap Paste.
- Wait a moment while Clearlla looks up the post. A preview and a list of available files appear.
Step 3: Choose the file you want
Clearlla lists what the platform makes available. For a TikTok video that may be a version without the watermark and an audio track. For a Reddit video it is usually a video file and a separate audio track. For an X post with several images, each image is listed on its own.
Pick the version you need. Higher quality files are larger, so on mobile data you might prefer the smaller one.
Step 4: Save the file
Tap Download. On most phones the browser shows a download bar or icon when the file is saved. If a file opens in a new tab instead, that platform does not let other websites save its files directly. Long press the video or image and choose Download, Save, or the share option to save it from there.
Where the file goes
On Android
Chrome and most Android browsers save to the Downloads folder. Open the Files app, or your gallery app's Downloads album, to find it. Some gallery apps show downloaded videos automatically; others need you to open the Downloads folder once.
On iPhone
Safari saves to the Downloads folder in the Files app by default, not to Photos. Open Files, tap Downloads, open the video, then tap the share icon and choose Save Video to move it into Photos. You can change Safari's download location in Settings if you prefer.
Why phones behave differently
Browsers decide how downloads are handled, not websites. One browser may save instantly, another may ask first, and an in-app browser inside a social app may block downloads altogether. If nothing happens, open clearlla.com in your phone's main browser rather than the browser built into the app you copied from.
Storage settings matter too. A phone that is nearly full can fail to save larger videos without much explanation.
Limitations on iPhone and Android
- Only public posts from supported platforms work, the same as on desktop.
- Some platforms' files open in a new tab rather than saving directly, and need a manual save.
- Media links from some platforms expire, so download soon after pasting.
- In-app browsers may not support downloads; use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Samsung Internet.
- YouTube support is thumbnails only, on every device.
