Why Your Download Isn't in 4K: Video Quality Explained
A downloader can only give you the quality the platform stored. Here is where resolution gets lost and why no tool can add it back.
The short answer
Your download is not in 4K because the platform did not store a 4K version. Clearlla fetches the file the platform already has. It does not create new pixels, so the best it can offer is the best version the platform keeps for that post.
Where the quality goes
The original upload
A video filmed in 4K and uploaded from a phone with data saving switched on may reach the platform at 1080p or lower. Whatever the creator uploaded is the ceiling.
Platform compression
Every social platform re-encodes uploads to save bandwidth. Many cap the resolution they keep, and most lower the bitrate, which is why fine detail can look soft even at 1080p.
Available renditions
Platforms often keep several sizes of the same video. Reddit, for example, stores a few resolutions, and Twitch clips have a source rendition plus smaller ones. When a post offers more than one, Clearlla lists them so you can pick the largest.
Why HD does not mean 4K
HD usually means 720p, and Full HD means 1080p. 4K is roughly 3840x2160, four times the pixels of 1080p. A video labelled HD on a platform is almost never 4K, and a download button labelled HD reflects what the platform reports rather than a promise of maximum resolution.
Source quality versus upscaling
Some tools offer to convert a video to 4K. That is upscaling: stretching a smaller image to a larger frame and guessing the missing detail. The file gets bigger and the label says 4K, but the detail that was never recorded does not come back.
Clearlla does not upscale and does not label files with a resolution they do not have. If you see 720p, the source is 720p.
