MP4, MP3, JPG and WEBP: Which File Format Are You Getting?

What each format is, what opens it, and which ones Clearlla actually hands you on each supported platform.

The short answer

Clearlla does not convert files. You get the format the platform stores. In practice that means MP4 for video, JPG, PNG, or WEBP for images, and MP3 or M4A for audio where a platform provides audio separately.

What each format is

MP4

The standard video container. It plays on every modern phone, computer, and browser, and it imports into iPhone Photos and Android galleries without fuss.

MP3 and M4A

Both are audio. MP3 is the older, universally supported one. M4A uses AAC audio, sounds slightly better at the same size, and plays on nearly everything made in the last decade.

JPG

The most common photo format. Small files, universal support, slightly lossy compression.

WEBP

A newer image format that is smaller than JPG at similar quality. Browsers and modern phones open it fine. Some older editing apps and upload forms still reject it, which is the main practical downside.

What you get from each platform

  • TikTok: MP4 video without the watermark, slideshow images, and the original audio as MP3
  • Reddit: MP4 video with audio merged in, a separate M4A audio track, and gallery images in the format Reddit stores
  • Pinterest: the original image, usually JPG, and MP4 for video pins
  • Streamable and Twitch: MP4 clips
  • Bluesky: images as JPG
  • Mastodon: images, MP4 video, GIF animations as MP4, and audio in whatever format the poster uploaded
  • Telegram: MP4 video and JPG photos from public channel posts
  • Discord: the attachment exactly as uploaded, with its original filename and format
  • YouTube: thumbnails as JPG only

If you need a different format

Your phone or computer can usually handle it. Most photo apps can export a WEBP as JPG, and free desktop tools convert audio and video. Clearlla keeps the original so nothing is lost before you decide.
